We don’t have the decorations up yet… but we’re thinking about it! The holidays will be here before we know it, and we’re ready to party. As you’re thinking about your next big event, it’s important to keep in mind that we can do nearly anything.

Maxie’s is available for fully private daytime events. The entire upstairs is yours, so you can plan your luncheon however you like. And if you like Maxie’s food, you’re gonna love the Lemon Caper Chicken from our Lunch Catering menu.





IMG_4893In the evenings, you can host semi-private dinner parties of up to 50, or evening cocktail parties of up to 75. You’ll have your own space, but your guests will still feel part of the nightly Maxie’s party.





poboysMaxie’s also offers off-site catering for offices, tailgates, large groups, and weddings, with pick-up or delivery options available. Our menus range from competitively priced Po’Boy sandwich platters to a supreme Southern spread to feed any size group.

We enjoyed a fantastic meal on Monday, with the added bonus of pairing each course with the iconic whiskies of Buffalo Trace Distillery. Take a peak at the menu. Executive Chef Jacob Schick brought out some Southern classics, riffed on fine dining, and showed Maxie’s whiskey inspiration with help from Sous Chef Drew Ladwig.

Whooooa, whiskey! We’re cooking up courses to match with the whiskies of Buffalo Trace Distillery on Monday, October 17.


The distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky has been an epicenter of American whiskey since 1775. We’re making drinks from some of the properties iconic brands, including Sazerac Rye, E.H. Taylor Small Batch Bourbon, Eagle Rare 10yr Bourbon, and, of course, Buffalo Trace.

We are looking for genuine, kind and passionate hospitality professionals, who are happiest when making others happy.

We have job openings for HOSTS and SUPPORT personnel; ideal candidates must have great customer service skills, genuine hospitality and enjoy working in a team atmosphere.

HOSTS are the first point of contact so we need happy smiling people welcoming our guests. Great organizational skills are needed in this position along with the ability to work well under pressure.

Members of our SUPPORT team keep the restaurant running! They must be happy and personable, while being able to multi task and also work well under pressure. This is a wage and tipped position.

Our Southern inspired menu includes Low Country cooking of the Carolinas, Creole and Cajun cooking of Louisiana. When our guests walk into Maxie’s they get the feeling of walking into a party. Come tryout for the team at one Milwaukee’s busiest and most consistent restaurants.

Maxie’s is open at 4 p.m. every day; candidates must be available for a 3 shift minimum and weekend availability is required.

Eat a Peach! Peach Week, July 5-10

Maxie’s is CLOSED on Monday, July 4 to celebrate the holiday, but when we reopen again on July 5, it’ll be “Peach Week” here at all three Black Shoe Hospitality restaurants!

We partnered with Tree-Ripe Citrus to bring you dishes created with real, ripe Georgia peaches. If you’ve never had a Georgia peach, you’ve got to try one – they’re one of the greatest fruit pleasures (there’s a reason there’s 70+ streets named “Peachtree” in Atlanta)!

Tree-Ripe Citrus will also be SAMPLING their peaches here at Maxie’s on Saturday, July 9 starting at 5 p.m., and SELLING outside Story Hill BKC on Mondays from 5-7 p.m. (except July 4). Other sampling sessions: Story Hill BKC on Friday, July 8, starting at 5 p.m.; and Sunday, July 10 at Blue’s Egg, starting at 7 a.m.

Hurray! For National Bourbon Day!

Today is #NationalBourbonDay and we’re celebrating… by drinking some bourbon, of course! We have 70 to choose from (strictly speaking bourbon; there’s plenty more rye, some unique creations and a little Scotch), and we can mix any of it into an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.

We’re celebrating our 9th year as a restaurant with our 9th Annual Derby Day Party for Hunger Relief on Saturday, May 7, 2016. As always, proceeds will go to support Hunger Task Force – Free & Local. With your generosity, our Derby Day party has raised more than $20,000 in the last three years to prevent hunger by providing food to people in need.

Doors open at 1 p.m., with a $15 entry fee, which goes entirely to Hunger Task Force. We’re excited to again welcome The Jackson Park Jazz Orchestra to perform jazzy big band music before and after the race. Stepping Stone Farms is slated to show off one of its horses, posing for pictures with party goers. Watch pre-race coverage on flatscreen throughout the restaurant and party tent leading up to the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby

A fan favorite from last year, Andrew Feller of 414 Photography will host a photo booth to document every glamorous attendee. Photo prints will be available for a suggested donation of $5, and the photo booth will be the entry point for the party’s Best Dressed contests.

Our regular menu will be complimented with an array of Kentucky specialties and Derby party favorites, such Kentucky Hot Browns, Bourbon Balls and Derby Pie. Maxie’s does not accept reservations on Saturdays, and will not accept call-aheads on Derby Day. We plan to resume our call-ahead policy for regular dinner service after the race, at approximately 6 p.m.

Drink specials will be available at our two full-service bars, as well as at two outdoor bars. Enjoy a Four Roses Bourbon Mint Julep ($6), Skyy Vodka Oaks Lily ($6) and Skyy Peach Vodka Derby Tea ($5). Beer specials include Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale ($5) and official Derby beer Stella Artois ($4). We’ll also be pouring Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon from official Derby winery 14 Hands.

The party includes raffles and a silent auction, with fabulous prizes including hotel and dining packages, authentic Derby gear, gift baskets and catered parties from Maxie’s. Entry includes a $5 “bet” on the race (correct selection of Win, Place & Show are entered in a raffle for prizes). Additional “bets” are $5. All Derby “bets” are for prizes only; no cash will be tendered. All entry, raffle, auction and “betting” proceeds go to Hunger Task Force.

Race time is approximately 5:24 p.m.



Michter’s Whiskey Dinner 2/22/2016

MichtersPoster-01We hosted a great crowd on Feb. 22 for a special dinner with Michter’s Distillery of Louisville, Kentucky. Michter’s regional director Lisa Frost told us about the history, craft and techniques Michter’s uses to distinguish their excellent whiskey.

Executive Chef Jacob Schick collaborated with Chef/Co-owner Joe Muench and Sous Chef Elgin Harris, to create an epic Maxie’s meal. Each course was paired with cocktails crafted by Maxie’s Mick Laughran, and set a high bar for future collaborations. Look for info on our next dinner – probably in late May after Derby Day!
