Team Maxie’s is working on our next culinary collaboration: a whiskey-paired dinner featuring selections from Jefferson’s Bourbon. Jefferson’s is known for quality and for innovative and experimental blending and aging techniques. These quality and specialty bourbons — often aged in unique casks — will be an exciting match for a Southern-style supper. Four plated courses and a reception with hors d’oeuvres will be coupled either with craft cocktails featuring Jefferson’s mixed by Maxie’s bar team, or served on the rocks or neat.
For this dinner, our plan is to go “WHOLE HOG” — cooking an entire heritage breed hog and incorporating some of the pork in each course.
The dinner will also feature special pricing on additional pours of Maxie’s collection of Jefferson’s Reserve Selections. Sample 1oz pours available will include Jefferson’s Presidential Select 16-Year, Jefferson’s Grand Selection Chateau Pichon Baron Cask Finish, and Jefferson’s Reserve Pritchard Hill Cabernet Finish. Badger Liquor’s spirits ambassador will help guide us through the dinner and share insights about this unique whiskey producer.

Team Maxie’s will be down at Grant Park for a sublime evening on Aug. 23, when NEWaukee presents a progressive dinner and music event on the Seven Bridges trail. Wander through the forest, sip and sample local food and beverages, and make your way to the beach to enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Michigan on a warm summer evening.
Tickets are $35 each and include six food and beer samples (Click here). A cash bar will be available on the beach at the end of the trail. If you want to experience the night hike and not sample food or beer, there is no charge to attend.
• Aug. 25, 12-8 p.m. — WMSE’s 9th Annual Backyard BBQ
You’re in for a helluva good time as longtime alt-country rockers the Old 97’s headline WMSE’s Backyard BBQ, a FREE day of concerts at Humboldt Park in Bay View, Milwaukee. Maxie’s is serving (and catering to the VIPs). Music starts at noon with WMSE DJs, followed by Buffalo Gospel with special guest, Vitrolum Republic, Altered Five Blues Band, and Bailey Dee, before Old 97’s go on at 6:30 p.m.

The final night of our beloved FREE outdoor concert series features Mike Mangione & The Kin. Opener Caley Conway gets things started at 6 p.m. at the Rotary Performance Pavilion in Hart Park, Wauwatosa.
